The Redwall television series has been co-produced
by Nelvana of
Canada (65%) and Alphanim of France (35%). It
consists of 13 half
hour episodes which recount the original
Redwall story and remain
faithful to the book.
The original artwork used as models for the animators
has been
painted by Fangorn (aka Chris Baker), the artist
who provided most
of the book covers for the British editions.
European style animation
was used, similar to the television shows Rupert
and Babar which are
shown on CBS and Nickelodeon in the USA.
The TV series will be released in Canada in the
Fall of 1999 on
TELETOON, Canada's premier animation station.
TELETOON is
presenting a "teaser preview" of the first four
episodes in May. They
will be shown May 11, 12, 13 and 14 at 7:00 pm
and again at 10:00
pm. These four episodes will then be shown again
Saturday May 15
in a marathon from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
The TV series will be shown in France the thirteen
days just before
Christmas 1999, one episode per day.
Nelvana distributes its shows to 160 countries.
It is expected that the
the Redwall TV series will be distributed worldwide,
and will be
available on video. Additional information will
be posted here as it is
released.
Work has just begun on the first Redwall movie,
"Martin the
Warrior". Brian Jacques has just begun writing
the screenplay himself,
to ensure that the integrity of the book is retained,
and the values of
Redwall are maintained. European-style animation
will be used, again
with the artwork of Fangorn as models for the
animators.
